Van Hansis was born as Evan Vanfossen Hansis on September 25, 1981 in North Adams, Massachusetts. Van's family moved to Greenfield, Massachusetts when he was in the third grade. He attended Four Corners School and later the Greenfield Center School.
Van began acting in a local theater camp as a child. He attended high school at The Walnut Hill School for the Arts, in Natick, Massachusetts from 1996 to 2000. Van flexed his early acting muscles close to home in western Massachusetts at both Shea Theater in Turners Falls and at the Williamstown Theater Festival. Van attended Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh Pennsylvania from 2000 to 2004, receiving a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Acting from the School of Drama. While in Pittsburgh, Van was cast in various productions including "Pittsburgh Public Theater's Young Company presents The Laramie Project" in 2002. In Fall 2003, Van studied abroad at The Moscow Art Theater in Moscow, Russia.
After college, Van starred on the long-running CBS soap opera, "As the World Turns" as Luke Snyder. Van was nominated for Daytime Emmy Awards in 2007, 2008, and 2009 for his work on "As The World Turns." He made his first appearance on December 14, 2005 and played the character until the end of the show's run, appearing in its final episode, which aired on September 17, 2010.
While working and living in New York City, Van continued to gain theater experience, being cast in various plays and made his off-broadway debut in "Die Mommie Die."
More recently, Van has had guest roles on various primetime television series and starred in a feature film, "Occupant." In addition, he played the male lead role in a short film, "Last Night", directed by Peter Sterling. The film premiered at the 2013 New Hampshire Film Festival.
In November 2012, Van was cast in the role of Thom on the webseries EastSiders. The critically acclaimed series was picked up by LogoTV.com in 2013 and has been made into a full length film which airs on the Logo's television channel. A second season of EastSiders is currently in the works.
